Facilitates achieving sustainable airport innovative technology capabilities that improve the human experience; differentiating from, but complementing, “Green” certification related to energy and environmental sustainability.

SMART's "Blue" Certification is similar to Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), but specific to airport enterprise process improvement via technology innovations.

As part of this program, the SMART Association assembles relevant industry leading Subject Matter Experts (SME)s to assess an airport’s existing technology innovation capabilities for select use-cases, and generates a gap/risk analysis, as well as outlines recommended improvements and best practices approach, if any are needed, to achieve “SMART Blue Certification” of various maturity levels.
